Alpha Phi Omega Section 55

Seger Session

The Seger Session is one of Epsilon Lambda's oldest and dearest fellowship traditions (OK, drinking beer is older). It began almost as a joke in the mid-1970's, and has grown into a near-religious ritual. It can be done anywhere, anytime, by anyone, although tradition says wait til after midnight. It is properly done with your favorite beverage in your hand, and all your brothers around. Sing loud, drink long, and try your best to carry the tune. And for those of you who never quite figured out the words, or what to do when...

Where Everybody Knows Your Name (Theme from the TV Show "Cheers") by Gary Portnoy

Makin' your way in the world today
takes everything you've got.
Takin' a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away...
All those nights when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail,
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by its tail,
And your third fiance' didn't show.
Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came.
You want to be where you can see
The troubles are all the same,
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

You roll outta bed, Mr. Coffee's dead,
the morning's looking bright,
And your shrink ran off to Europe
And didn't even write.
And your husband wants to be a girl.
Be glad there's one place in the world

Where everybody knows your name,
And thery're always glad you came.
You want to go where people know
People are all the same,
You want to go where everybody knows your name.

(The refrain with "be" comes before "go". Remember "B" comes before "G".)

Nutbush City Limits by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band

You are here because you want to real thing. Let's bring out Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, NOW!!!

Hey Detroit!!! Yeah!!

There's a church house, jail house,
A little school house, out house,
On US-19, thirty people keep the city clean.
They call it Nutbush, awww Nutbush.

Nutbush city. Nutbush City limits.
Twenty-five's the speed limit. Motorcycles not allowed in.
Go to town on Saturday. Be in church every Sunday.
Love it. Love it. Nutbush City. Nutbush City Limits.
No whiskey for sale. Can't find a female.
Salt pork and molasses, all you gonna get if you land in jail.

Nutbush City. Nutbush city Limits. Little old town, down in Tennessee.
Wild!

Oooooo, Oooo, Yeah, Yeah.

As I told everybody last night, I was reading in Rolling Stone where they said, "Detroit audiences are the greatest rock & roll audiences in the world." I thought to myself,"Shit! I've known that for ten years!"

Ya better watch out for the po-lice, when you're drivin' in Nutbush
Better watch out for the po-lice, when you cruisin' Nutbush.
Keep and eye out for the po-lice, keep an eye out for the po-lice,
Keep an eye out for the po-lice, keep an eye out for the po-lice, UH!
Better keep an eye. Ya better keep an eye!
Better, better, better, better, better keep an eye!
Said, look out, ya better keep an eye!

Thank-you very much. Coupla song's from my new LP I'd like to do for you tonight. This first one's called "Travelin' Man."

(For the next two songs, drink with all your brothers. Link arms and drink, or give a hug and drink. Prepare for wet shoulders!)

Travelin' Man by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band

Up with the sun, gone with the wind.
She always said I was lazy.
Leavin' my home, Leavin' my friends,
Runnin' when things get too crazy.
Out to the road, out 'neath the stars,
Feeling the breeze, passin' the cars.

Women have come, women have gone,
Everyone tryin' to cage me.
Some were so sweet, I barely got free,
Others, they only enrage me.

Sometimes at night, I see their faces,
I feel the traces they left on my soul.
And those are the memories that made me a wealthy soul.
I tell ya, those are the memories that made me a wealthy soul.

Travelin' man, love when I can. Turn loose my hand 'cuz I'm goin'.
Travelin' man, catch me if you can. But sooner than later I'm goin'.
Travelin' man. Travelin' man.

Sometimes at night, I see their faces,
I feel the traces they left on my soul.
And those are the memories that made me a wealthy soul.
I tell ya, those are the memories that made me wealthy soul.

(Get small after the second set of chords. The shortest person gets to stand.)

Beautiful Loser by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band

(sing quietly)
He wants to dream like a young man,
With the wisdom of an old man.
He wants his home and security,
He wants to live like a sailor at sea.

(Get tall and hold your drink up)
Beautiful Loser! Where you gonna fall,
When you realize you just don't need it all.

He's your oldest and your best friend.
If you need him, he'll be there again
He's always willing to be second best,
A perfect lodger, a perfect guest.

(drinks up)
Beautiful loser! Read it on the wall,
Then you realize you just don't need it all.
Hey, you just don't need it alllll, don't need it all.
You don't need it all.
Hey! You can try! But you can't have it all. Oh no!

He'll never make any enemies, enemies.
He won't complain if he's caught on his knees.
He'll always ask, he'll always say please.

(drinks up)
Beautiful Loser! Never take it all.
"Cuz it's easier and faster when you fall
You just don't need it all. You just don't need it all.

(drinks up)
You just don't need it all.
